DigiPlus Interactive Corp, a major publicly listed gaming and technology company based in the Philippines, has set its sights on Africa, submitting applications for a range of online gaming licences in South Africa.
The move, confirmed in a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange, is a significant step in the company’s recently accelerated global growth strategy. DigiPlus has applied for an operator’s licence from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), one of the continent’s most established and respected regulatory bodies. The applications cover bookmaking, manufacturing, and bookmaker premises.
This expansion into Africa is the second major international move made by DigiPlus this month. It comes just two days after the company officially launched its GamePlus brand in the newly regulated Brazilian market, marking its entry into South America.
Together, these initiatives paint a clear picture of a company with serious global ambitions. “ The filing of our online gaming licence in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey,” said Chairman Eusebio Tanco. He added that the company aims to bring its “strength in localising games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies.”
DigiPlus is also at the centre of major M&A speculation in its home market. Industry rumours continue to link the company with a potential acquisition of Melco Resorts’ stake in the City of Dreams Manila integrated resort. While DigiPlus has stated that “no definitive agreement has been reached,” it has confirmed it continues to assess various acquisition opportunities.
With a new launch in Brazil, a licence application in South Africa, and potential mega-deals being explored in the Philippines, DigiPlus is actively and aggressively positioning itself to transition from a domestic powerhouse into a significant new player on the global gaming stage.
