A consumer-advocate report collects what is publicly known about the national self-exclusion register: awareness at a quarter of adults and a third of bettors, fifteen operators caught breaching it, one of them more than 100,000 times, three financial penalties, and an Entain case the regulator investigated past its own 12-month limit.

The Betfred founder has put numbers on the Treasury's option: 45% of his estate, 2,475 jobs, £66.8m of tax and £15.8m of racing funding, in a Sunday Times op-ed and a Financial Times interview in which he says machines are half of shop profit. Betfred has already ended its Super League sponsorship, citing last year's Budget.

Entain: 11 of 20 Premier League Clubs Now Carry an Unlicensed Gambling Sponsor

Stella David wants the government's promised ban brought in immediately, "even if that means clubs ordering new kit mid-season", and extended to online advertising, where 22% of unlicensed users first found their operator against 13% through sponsorship. The count is up from eight clubs last season, and the newest deal was signed after the consultation closed.

UK Gambling Yield Hit a Record £17.5bn and Online Casino Was All of the Growth

The Gambling Commission's 2025/26 report shows online casino up 14.8% to £5.7bn, adding more than the entire market gained. Online betting fell 6.6%, bingo fell, 208 betting shops closed before this year's cull began. The survey says participation is flat at 49%. The day after the Lords called for an advertising ban, the regulator's own numbers explain why the product mix is the argument.

Rank's Answer to a 40% Online Tax Is to Send Its Venue Customers Online

Richard Harris says the group's best growth lever is converting venue players to digital, that the new MyMecca app has lifted sign-ups, and that a UK market "unlikely to provide tax tailwinds" rewards small targeted projects over big ones. On the day Entain cut 400 jobs, that is a different way of reading the same Budget.

Two Black-Market Studies Land in a Day: €12bn in Europe, $50bn Worldwide

Euromat puts Europe's illegal online market at €12 billion and says it has tripled since 2019. The Betting and Gaming Council promotes a separate report putting the global figure at $50 billion. The two numbers cannot be compared, both were commissioned by interested parties, and both reach the same conclusion about what enforcement is doing wrong.

Paper for Entain Says Channelisation Should Be the Test of Gambling Policy

A new paper by the former New South Wales regulator Paul Newson argues that Australia's bans on online casino and in-play betting are handing the market to offshore operators, and that the country's illicit tobacco trade shows how quickly practical control is lost. It was prepared for Entain Australia and New Zealand, and it lands as New Zealand prepares to award its first 15 online casino licences.
