Spreadex

Spreadex

Spreadex is a British gambling and financial services company founded in 1999 in Dunstable by Jonathan Hufford, a former City of London dealer, and now headquartered in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It is one of the few operators combining financial spread betting, sports spread betting and sports fixed-odds betting in a single business. It launched online sports betting in 2006 and later added an online financial trading platform. Its acquisition of Sporting Index drew an adverse ruling from the Competition and Markets Authority in September 2025, which found the deal created a monopoly in sports spread betting and required divestiture, a rare competition intervention in British gambling. Hufford stepped down as managing director in 2024 and remained on the board in a non-executive capacity.
