The Rank Group plc is a British gambling operator headquartered in Maidenhead, Berkshire and listed on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 250 constituent. It is the largest casino operator in the United Kingdom and the second largest bingo operator. Its Grosvenor Casinos business, founded in 1970, runs 51 venues including eight in London, while Mecca Bingo, established in 1961, operates 64 clubs alongside meccabingo.com. For the twelve months to 30 June 2026 the group reported net gaming revenue of 834 million pounds, up 6% and a fifth consecutive year of growth, with operating profit up 21% to 78.6 million pounds. As a predominantly land-based operator it is exposed to a different part of the British regulatory debate than the online-first groups, particularly on casino gaming machine allowances.

The Gambling Commission found that staff at Rank's Grosvenor casinos treated customers' wealth or winning streaks as a reason for light-touch safer gambling checks, and that its anti-money laundering rules had not caught up with changes made in 2020. The regulator says risks more often associated with online gambling are equally alive on the casino floor.
The Mecca and Grosvenor owner says a doubling would shut about a third of its estate and hit around 2,000 staff. Its own accounts suggest the arithmetic is real: on a rough estimate, the rise on Mecca's machines alone would exceed what its bingo clubs earn. The new gambling minister, touring one of its casinos this week, has so far spoken about bingo licensing rather than tax.
Richard Harris says the group's best growth lever is converting venue players to digital, that the new MyMecca app has lifted sign-ups, and that a UK market "unlikely to provide tax tailwinds" rewards small targeted projects over big ones. On the day Entain cut 400 jobs, that is a different way of reading the same Budget.
Rank Group has delivered a standout set of full-year results against a difficult backdrop for UK-listed operators, growing underlying like-for-like net gaming revenue 6% to £834.1 million and lifting underlying profit by 21%. The figures suggest the Grosvenor and Mecca owner has absorbed the initial impact of the tax hikes that have rattled rivals.
