It concentrates on liquidity in football, horse racing, American sports and tennis, competes with the larger exchanges on lower commission for high-volume traders, and offers a sportsbook alongside the exchange. Matchbook had its British licence suspended briefly in 2020 over anti-money-laundering failures before it was reinstated, and is privately owned with operations in London and Ireland.

Matchbook says it has completed the acquisition of Betdaq and is selling the deal as a deeper pool of liquidity, tied to the rise of prediction markets. Betdaq's own closure notice shows what was actually bought: the brand and the domains, with no customer accounts and no order book. The price was not disclosed.
