Wynn Resorts has officially completed its acquisition of Wynn Mayfair, a distinguished private members-only club located in London. This finalisation expands Wynn Resorts’ global footprint and marks a significant milestone in its strategic expansion in Europe and the Middle East.
The gaming, hospitality, and entertainment company announced the completion of the purchase of the historic venue, formerly owned by Crown Resorts. The acquisition of Wynn Mayfair received final approval from the UK gambling regulator, the Gambling Commission.
Wynn Mayfair is situated at 27-28 Curzon Street, Mayfair, London, and was originally known as the White Elephant Club. The venue boasts a rich history spanning more than six decades, having attracted a range of famous guests, including notable figures like Princess Margaret, Roger Moore, and Shirley Bassey.
Currently, the private members-only club features an exclusive gaming area with nearly two dozen gaming tables. These 20 gaming tables are distributed between a rooftop terrace, the main gaming floor, and six private salons. The club also offers a dining and bar area that is open to the public, serving specialty cocktails, exceptional wines, and popular dishes. Wynn Mayfair is distinguished by its unique combination of contemporary and classical artworks, a collection of antiques, and plush furnishings, with its rooftop terrace being a particular highlight.
Wynn Resorts’ Busy Period of Strategic Moves
The finalisation of the Wynn Mayfair acquisition comes during a busy period of strategic adjustments for Wynn Resorts. In mid-May, the company announced its decision to withdraw from the competitive race for a New York downtown casino license, confirming its intention to focus on other projects and strategic priorities.
Simultaneously, securing a prominent spot in London aligns with Wynn Resorts’ broader expansion plans, which include the upcoming launch of its new Middle East casino resort, Wynn Al Marjan Island, in the UAE. The company currently aims to open this new resort in early 2027.
In conclusion, Wynn Resorts’ acquisition of Wynn Mayfair strengthens its European presence with a historic luxury venue that combines dining and gaming amenities. This move reflects the company’s ongoing strategic global expansion, even as it refines its portfolio and focuses on key markets like the UAE.
