BOS Warns Sweden's Group Turnover AML Fine Cap Risks Double Punishment

Sweden's plan for the EU anti-money laundering package would let the regulator fine a gambling licensee up to 10% of turnover, measured where applicable at group level. The online operators' trade body says that base is disproportionate and risks double punishment.

Betsson Posts a Record €326.5m Quarter as Casino Grows 14% but EBIT Falls 31%

Latin American revenue rose by more than half and casino carried a weak sportsbook to Betsson's highest quarter yet, but gaming taxes and a shrinking B2B line took almost a third off operating profit. The record also rests on the region where Brazil has already shut its market and a Buenos Aires senator wants to do the same.

Spain Opens Its Player Portal and Starts Testing a €700-a-Day Deposit Limit Across Every Online Operator

Spain's consumer affairs ministry has switched on a regulator-run system that will add up each player's deposits across all licensed online operators and stop them at €700 a day, €1,750 a week and €3,300 over four weeks, plus a portal that shows players their whole market footprint. The limit binds from March 2027, and players can lift it themselves after three working days.

Swedish Appeal Court Upholds SEK44 Million in bet365 Penalties Over a No-Limit Deposit Option

Sweden's Administrative Court of Appeal has upheld two warnings and SEK44 million in sanction fees against bet365 for letting players choose "no limit" as their mandatory deposit limit for more than three years. The fees are lower than Spelinspektionen first set in 2023, mostly because of a ruling on how the cap is calculated, but the regulator's reading of the law has held.

Sweden Pulls Charm Entertainment's Casino Licences Over Accounting Crime Charges

Spelinspektionen has revoked the restaurant casino operator's licences with immediate effect, pending a final decision, because the people behind it face charges over a predecessor company that ran almost the same business. The regulator is treating tax and bookkeeping failures as a fitness question, not a side issue.

Finland Has 75 Gambling Licence Applications and Has Approved None

Applications to Finland's National Police Board have risen by half since June, beating researchers' estimates, but processing now takes six to eight months and the market opens on 1 July 2027. The first licences will decide who can advertise to Finns first.

A Malta Court Orders Aviator Studio to Stop Using the Aviator Name in the EU

The First Hall of the Civil Court granted Spribe an ex parte provisional injunction on 1 September covering two EU trademarks. The evidence the court cited is the kind operators can check for themselves: the two games appearing side by side in a search on Betsson, and a listing that credited Spribe's game to the wrong studio.

Paper for Entain Says Channelisation Should Be the Test of Gambling Policy

A new paper by the former New South Wales regulator Paul Newson argues that Australia's bans on online casino and in-play betting are handing the market to offshore operators, and that the country's illicit tobacco trade shows how quickly practical control is lost. It was prepared for Entain Australia and New Zealand, and it lands as New Zealand prepares to award its first 15 online casino licences.

Sweden Appoints a Youth Gambling Inquiry as Risky Play Among Young Men Doubles

The government has commissioned a special investigator to map gambling among children and young adults, review operators' marketing on both the licensed and unlicensed markets, and propose new protections, with a report due by 29 February 2028. The health minister says risky gambling among young men has doubled in a few years and one in five is affected.

Brazil's Self-Exclusion Register Hits 1.2 Million in Eight Months

More than 1.2 million people, 3% of every active bettor registered with the regulator, have barred themselves from Brazil's licensed betting sites since the central platform opened in December. The figure arrived in a week when the Supreme Court received rival petitions on the betting law and the central bank told banks to stop advertising bets inside their apps.
