M-Pesa

M-Pesa is the mobile-money service launched by Safaricom in Kenya in 2007 and now operated across Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho, Ghana, Egypt and other markets, through which tens of millions of users send money, pay bills and fund online services from their phones. It is the dominant deposit and withdrawal method for licensed sports betting operators in Kenya and Tanzania, integrated through paybill numbers and APIs, and its transaction data has been central to Kenya's betting tax debates.
