Kahnawake was one of the earliest online gambling licensing jurisdictions, with the commission operating since 1996 under tribal sovereignty grounds. The KGC license has historically been used by operators serving multiple grey and selected regulated markets. The jurisdiction's distinctive legal basis (Mohawk Nation sovereignty within Canada) has been the subject of various legal discussions but the licensing regime has remained operational. For operators and suppliers, a Kahnawake license is part of the offshore licensing landscape alongside Curacao, Malta, Isle of Man, and others. Recognition varies by market: some banking and payment counterparties accept KGC; others apply additional diligence.
