The Kahnawake Gaming Commission is the gaming regulator for the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, a sovereign jurisdiction just outside Montreal, Quebec, and was one of the first jurisdictions in the world to license interactive gaming. It derives its powers from the Kahnawake Gaming Law, under which it enacts regulations, and its Commissioners are appointed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake. For interactive gaming it issues five types of licence, appoints Approved Agents to carry out functions on its behalf, and runs a logo certification programme that lets players check whether a site bearing its logo is licensed. It describes player protection as its primary function and handles complaints and dispute resolution. It also licenses three types of land based gaming within the territory: poker rooms, raffles and electronic gaming devices, and publishes advisory notices on its permit holders.
