BoyleSports is Ireland's largest independently owned bookmaker, founded in 1982 by John Boyle, who opened his first shop in Markethill, County Armagh with 18,000 pounds raised from a loan from his father and bank finance. Its head office is on the outskirts of Dundalk in the Republic of Ireland. The company remains family owned and has grown to more than 390 shops across Ireland and the United Kingdom, employing over 2,700 people across Ireland, the UK and Gibraltar. Its British expansion has come largely through acquiring independent estates, and it is licensed by the Gambling Commission for its UK operations. Alongside retail it runs an online business covering sports betting, casino, poker, bingo and lottery.
