Jogos Santa Casa

Jogos Santa Casa

Jogos Santa Casa is the gaming arm of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the Portuguese charitable institution founded in 1498 by Queen Regent Eleanor of Viseu. It operates the state's social games under an exclusive regime, on behalf of and for the account of the Portuguese state. Its portfolio covers Euromilhões, which accounts for around 76.5% of sales, alongside Totoloto, Totobola, Lotaria Clássica and Lotaria Popular. Proceeds fund the institution's charitable and social work, the purpose the games were created to serve. Santa Casa's monopoly is also the subject of one of the landmark European gambling judgments: the Court of Justice ruling in Liga Portuguesa v Santa Casa upheld a member state's right to restrict cross-border online gambling on consumer-protection grounds.
