bet365 Goes Live in West Virginia With Sportsbook and Online Casino

The operator's own state list now reads 18, and West Virginia is the addition. It is one of only a handful of states where the casino product can travel with the sportsbook.
- bet365 confirmed on its own US states page that, as of 27 August 2026, it is available for both sports betting and online casino gaming in West Virginia
- The same page now describes the operator as live across 18 US states, up from 17 before the launch
- The West Virginia Lottery approved an annual sports wagering management services provider licence for Hillside (West Virginia) LLC, the bet365 entity, on 29 July 2026
- West Virginia is one of the small group of American states with a regulated online casino market alongside sports betting, which is what makes it a disproportionately valuable licence for an operator with a strong casino product
- bet365's longest-standing US market is New Jersey, live since 30 August 2019, and its most recent additions before this were Missouri in December 2025 and Maryland in August 2025
The Casino Half Is the Reason This Matters
West Virginia has legislated for both online sports betting and online casino, which puts it in a much smaller club than the roughly 30 states that have sports betting alone. For an operator, the distinction is the difference between a marketing cost and a business. Sports betting is seasonal, low margin and expensive to acquire into; online casino has better retention, higher margin and no fixture list. Launching both together in the same market, on the same account, is the configuration operators actually want and only rarely get in the United States.
The regulatory groundwork was laid last month, when the West Virginia Lottery approved an annual sports wagering management services provider licence for Hillside (West Virginia) LLC. Hillside is the corporate family bet365 uses for its licensed entities. The company has not made a launch announcement of the kind that usually accompanies a state entry, but its own consumer-facing state page is unambiguous, and it is the operator's own statement of where it is live.
bet365 has been building its American footprint deliberately rather than quickly. It entered through New Jersey in August 2019 and spent three years there before adding Colorado in September 2022. The pace has picked up since: Illinois and Tennessee in March 2025, Kansas in August 2025, Maryland at the end of that month, and Missouri in December 2025.
A Late Entrant Is Now Buying the Markets That Suit It Rather Than All of Them
The interesting thing about bet365's US map is what is missing from it. The company is not in several of the largest sports betting states, and it has never pursued the land-grab strategy that defined the market's first five years, when operators bought share at any price and then spent years explaining the losses. Arriving in West Virginia in 2026, six years after the state's iGaming market opened, is late by the standards of that era and perfectly rational by the standards of this one. Customer acquisition costs have fallen from their peak, the promotional arms race has cooled, and a market with online casino attached rewards patience in a way a sports-only state does not. It is the same discipline that has kept bet365 out of the prediction markets scramble that has consumed its larger rivals this year.
Eighteen States Is a Position, Not a Milestone
Round numbers invite the wrong reading. The relevant question is not how many states an operator is in but what share of the addressable handle those states represent and what the product mix looks like inside them. On that measure West Virginia is small in population and useful in structure, and it fits a pattern of choosing markets where the casino licence comes with the sportsbook. Compare the operators reporting into the record months New Jersey has been posting, where iGaming has repeatedly outgrown sports betting, and the logic is plain. The states worth having are the ones where a customer who stops betting on football does not stop being a customer.
bet365 has taken the eighteenth state and the harder half of it. The count is the least interesting part.
