PMU, or Pari Mutuel Urbain, is the French horse race betting operator, founded in Paris in 1930 to organise and commercialise pool betting on French racing. Its statutory purpose includes financing the French racing industry, and horse racing accounts for the large majority of its activity. It is the leading European operator of pool betting on horse racing and among the largest worldwide, distributing through a retail estate of more than 14,000 points of sale as well as online. Alongside horse racing it holds ANJ licences for sports betting and poker, the other two verticals open to online competition in France.
